Skanska: One scheduling software across the entire project portfolio
Results
✅ Sitedrive is now the standard software on 100% Skanska sites in Finland
From commercial buildings and residential projects to infrastructure: One scheduling software supports the entire project portfolio. The only exception is if the client has specific requirement.
✅ Takt implemented successfully
Sites move toward takt production at their own pace and only where it creates value — not as a forced, puristic model.
✅ One software, one way of working
Training is simpler, onboarding is faster, and people can move between projects without relearning tools or logic.
✅ Clear visibility into implementation quality
Sitedrive Health Score shows how well new processes are adopted, site by site.
✅ Portfolio-level “air traffic control” view
Leadership can see and compare data from all sites at once: how schedules are created and used, how actively are they updated, where support is needed, and how projects are progressing.
✅ Pilots planned in multiple countries
As Skanska Finland has shared their successes and learnings, other country organisations have gotten interested in Sitedrive as well. It is piloted currently in Norway, and pilots are being planned in other countries as well.
✅ Proven impact on construction time
Skanska’s Härmälänranta project in Tampere received an Impact Award after cutting construction time in half. This was supported, e.g. by takt production improvements and production process changes enabled by Sitedrive.
Challenge
Skanska’s goal is clear: improve productivity by shortening construction times.
When takt production started gaining momentum, Skanska saw strong potential. The first steps were taken using manual Excel-based takt plans.
But the limits became obvious fast.
“The project doesn’t need to be very big before it becomes practically impossible to keep an Excel schedule up to date.”

As projects grow in size and complexity, Excel-based takt planning becomes:
- Extremely time-consuming and manual
- Hard to keep accurate and up-to-date
- Impossible to scale consistently
At the same time, Skanska identified a deeper problem. They did not want one tool for takt, another for Gantt, and so on.
“We build apartment buildings, demanding hospitals, renovation projects, and infrastructure. These projects follow completely different logics. We need to manage all production with the same software.”

Multiple tools would mean:
- Fragmented data
- Inconsistent processes
- Slower learning across projects
- No reliable portfolio-level visibility
Skanska needed one production software that could:
- Support takt production where it makes sense
- Support other scheduling methods where takt doesn’t apply
- Scale to hundreds — eventually thousands — of sites
- Produce clean, comparable data for leadership, analytics, and future AI use
But back in 2015, no such tool existed yet.
“We are a process-oriented company. If you have many tools for the same thing, it becomes very difficult to build and scale a shared way of working.”

Solution
Skanska chose to collaborate with Sitedrive to create a tool that would work as the single production planning and management system across its project portfolio.
The collaboration went far beyond a traditional software rollout. Because Sitedrive serves multiple companies, product roadmaps don’t always align perfectly. What made this work was mutual trust, tight communication, and strong user-centricity.
One scheduling logic — many production models
With Sitedrive, Skanska established:
- One core scheduling and site management logic across all projects
- The ability to apply takt production at daily and hourly level where it creates value
- Freedom to use other scheduling methods when takt is not the right fit
“We don’t want to force puristic takt everywhere. Sites can implement it where it actually improves production and do it at their own pace.”

Deep visibility from portfolio to site level
Sitedrive enables Skanska to:
- Drill from portfolio-level views down to individual site activities
- See how schedules are used in reality — not just how they look on paper
- Track adoption of new processes via Health Scores and usage data
For example: Once the mobile rollout begins, leadership can clearly see which sites are already using Sitedrive Mobile — and which are not. This way support can be targeted precisely where it’s needed.
The feedback from the field has been clear. Thanks to its easy-to-use interface, sites share a lot of positive feedback on Sitedrive.
“We studied the market thoroughly and found Sitedrive the best software for this purpose. I still strongly believe that. Sitedrive is not just for takt — it can be used across the entire project portfolio.”
